The topic of sustainability can be somewhat overwhelming, but we can have a real and positive impact at home by simply respecting the everyday products we use. If we all bring a little creativity to potential food waste, we can not only reduce it, but make something delicious from it!

Imagine a table after a weekend breakfast. At first glance it looks like it’s all ready for the bin. However, where others see waste, lies great opportunity!

Tea – It has more than just one brew in it! So salvage that tea bag, put it in some cold water, pop it in the fridge and let it slowly brew. This will give you an excellent ingredient to lengthen a cocktail with. Any black tea will work in this recipe, and each will bring its own unique character to the drink. The citrus notes of Earl Grey tea work particularly nicely here.

Marmalade – Before refrigeration, fresh seasonal ingredients needed to be preserved, and one way of doing that was with sugar. Marmalade is a delicious way to preserve the whole orange, it can also add sweetness to a cocktail. So make sure to scrape out every last bit from the jar – you can even use the jar itself to serve the drink in!

Upgrade your classic highball with some homemade honey and ginger soda. Use all ingredients by candying the extra ginger for a delicious garnish.
