The Best Bars To Have A Whisky In Inner Melbourne
Whisky is making a comeback, and Melbourne has really lifted its whisky game of late. Whether its sipping a whisky sour at a groovy rooftop bar or on the rocks in a dark seductive basement, here is a list of some of our favourite spots to sip on whisky. Let's get sipping!
Boilermaker House, Lonsdale St, Melbourne
Boilermaker House is an industrial, yet sophisticated blues filled homage to all things Whisky, craft beer, artisanal meats and cheeses and unique cocktails. Their spectacular back bar features over 900 drams that are perfect for a nip or matched to our list of 50+ craft beers enjoyed as a signature ‘Boilermaker’.
The Boilermaker is a drinking tradition of matching a beer to a whisky and imbibing simultaneously creating a drinking experience greater than the sum of its parts. There is no finer companion to a nice whisky than a frosty beer.
We recently created a Boilermaker with our sibling brand, Bladnoch and Urban Alley Brewery, click here. If you stop by, be sure to order the House Sour with Pure Scot.
Ugly Duckling, Swan St, Richmond
The Ugly Duckling is a stylish table service cocktail and wine bar in the heart of Swan Street, Richmond, Victoria. Its the perfect destination for midweek drinks, date night or a night out on the town for cocktails. Renowned for our bespoke cocktail list featuring aperitivo style drinks, traditional martinis, signature recipes, and seasonal classics for constant inspiration. Stocked with over 200+ of the finest local and international spirits and liqueurs, with a specific focus on gin and whiskey.
Be sure to try our Midnight Peat (we recommend it in an Old Fashioned).
The Cloakroom, City Rd, Southbank
Forty-six floors up, past a gold door and through a tiny pink foyer, the first thing you’ll notice about Cloakroom Bar is its spectacular view of the city skyline. But this small 40-person bar isn’t just about drinking in the sky.
The Botanical, Domain Rd, South Yarra
The Botanical is an institutional to say the least. The venue has been the go-to staple in South Yarra for over thirty years. Be sure to order their Pure Scot whisky sour for one of their talented bartenders.
Bar Bambi, AC/DC Lane, Melbourne
Bar Bambi feels like the lovechild of an NYC speak-easy and LA supper club, with some old-school Italian vibes thrown in for good measure. Thursdays are piano nights, while on Fridays and Saturdays, there’ll be late-night dining and back-to-back DJ sets. And spritz Sundays will also incorporate the piano. You'll find Pure Scot at the bar.
